Bordon has changed a lot. The army moved out of the garrison in the mid-2010s, and Whitehill and Bordon has been growing ever since into a new town with thousands of homes, a new town centre and green space reclaimed from the old military land. One thing has not changed: there is still no railway station, and Gatwick is a long way east across Surrey. A taxi from Bordon GU35 to Gatwick Airport costs from £109 for a saloon, fixed at booking, and picks you up from your front door.
Getting from east Hampshire to Gatwick
There is no motorway near Bordon, so the first part of the journey is always on A-roads. Most drivers head east to Hindhead and join the A3, which runs through the Hindhead Tunnel and on towards Guildford, then take the A25 or the M25 east before the M23 south into Gatwick. Another option is the A31 to Farnham and Guildford, or the A272 and A24 through the villages to Horsham and Crawley when the A3 is slow.
It is around 45 miles and an hour to an hour and ten minutes in normal traffic. The A3 at Guildford and the M25 near junction 10 are the parts most likely to slow you down at rush hour. For early morning flights, the roads are usually clear and the drive is quicker.
Across GU35
GU35 covers more than Bordon itself. We pick up from Whitehill and the new developments on the former garrison land, Lindford, Headley, Headley Down, Arford, Kingsley, Oakhanger and Standford. Some of the older roads around Headley and Arford are narrow and steep, and some newer streets in Whitehill and Bordon are not yet on every satnav. If your road is newly built, add a nearby landmark or a what3words reference so the driver finds you first time.
Why the train does not really work
The nearest railway stations are at Liss, Liphook, Bentley and Farnham, all a few miles away. None of them has a direct service to Gatwick. A rail journey usually means a taxi or bus to the station, then at least two changes, often via Guildford or London, and close to two and a half hours in total. For most people leaving Bordon for a flight, especially with luggage, the car is the only practical choice.
What your fixed fare includes
The £109 saloon fare covers up to four passengers with two large cases and two smaller bags, from your door to North or South Terminal. It includes the drive, the airport drop-off and any waiting at your pickup within reason. The price is agreed when you book and does not change if the A3 is slow.
For families with more luggage, choose an estate or six-seat MPV. For a larger group, the eight-seater takes everyone together.
Gatwick's drop-off charges, and the free alternative
If a friend is driving you instead, warn them about the charge. Since January 2026, Gatwick has charged £10 for the first ten minutes in the forecourt drop-off zones outside both terminals, then £1 a minute up to thirty minutes. Cameras read the number plate, and the charge has to be paid online by midnight the next day, or it turns into a £100 penalty.
The free alternative is the Long Stay car park, where drop-off is free for up to two hours and a shuttle bus runs to the terminals. Blue Badge holders are exempt from the forecourt charge. With a pre-booked taxi, our fixed fare covers the drop-off.
Planning your pickup time
Because the first part of the drive is on A-roads, we usually suggest a slightly earlier pickup from Bordon than from towns on the motorway. As a guide, leave around three hours before a short-haul departure and three and a half hours before long-haul. For early flights, a pickup at 3am or 3.30am gets you there with time to spare. We will confirm the time with you when you book.
Coming home
The same fixed fare applies from Gatwick back to Bordon. Your driver tracks your flight, waits in arrivals with a name board, and walks you to the car. A late flight costs you nothing extra. We have a separate guide for taxis from Gatwick to Bordon with more on the arrivals side.
Services families and veterans
Bordon still has strong links with the forces, and many former service families live in and around the town. We carry plenty of veterans, service personnel and their families to and from the airport. If you have mobility needs or are travelling with a wheelchair, add a note when you book and we will match the vehicle.
