Shepherd's Bush is west London at its busiest: Westfield, one of the largest shopping centres in Europe, the music venue on the Green, the BBC's old Television Centre at White City, now flats, restaurants and studios, and a big mix of homes, hotels and offices around them. It is also on the opposite side of London from Gatwick. A taxi from Gatwick Airport to Shepherd's Bush costs from £79 for a saloon, fixed at booking, and takes you straight to the door.
Through London or around it
The driver has two options. Through London, the route follows the A23 north through Croydon and Streatham, then across to Wandsworth and up through Fulham and Hammersmith, about 32 miles. Around London, the driver takes the M25 anticlockwise to the M4 at junction 15, then heads east along the M4 and A4 into Hammersmith and up to the Bush. It is longer, nearer 50 miles, but often quicker at busy times. The driver will pick the faster one on the day.
Plan on an hour to an hour and twenty minutes. The A23 through south London and the approach to Hammersmith are the slowest parts in rush hour. Late evenings are much quicker.
Around W12
W12 covers Shepherd's Bush Green and the roads around it, Uxbridge Road and Goldhawk Road, the Victorian terraces of Askew Road and the Coningham Road area, and White City, including Westfield, Television Centre and Imperial College's White City campus. Westfield has its own drop-off and taxi areas, and the hotels around it have set-down points. For homes in the residential streets, the driver can stop outside.
The roads around the Green have bus lanes and restrictions, so if you are in a flat above a shop, tell us the nearest side road.
Train options
There is a reasonable rail option for Shepherd's Bush. Southern trains run from East Croydon and Clapham Junction on the West London line to Shepherd's Bush station, next to Westfield, and some services from the Gatwick direction connect at those stations. The Overground also serves Shepherd's Bush. Alternatively, the Gatwick Express to Victoria and the tube via the Circle or District line gets you there in about an hour and a quarter.
For a solo traveller with light luggage, those are cheaper. With a family, heavy bags or after a long-haul flight, the car is easier, and with three or four passengers the fixed fare is competitive.
Congestion Charge and ULEZ
Shepherd's Bush is outside the central London Congestion Charge zone but inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone. Our vehicles meet ULEZ standards, so there is nothing extra to pay.
Meet and greet at Gatwick
Your driver tracks your flight and waits in arrivals with a name board, then walks you to the car in the short-stay car park. A late landing simply moves the pickup; it never changes the price.
Gatwick's drop-off charges
For your next flight, if someone drives you to Gatwick, they will pay £10 for the first ten minutes in the forecourt drop-off zones, rising by £1 a minute, under the charges introduced in January 2026. The free option is the Long Stay car park with a shuttle bus. With a pre-booked taxi from Shepherd's Bush, the fixed fare covers it.
Business and media visitors
White City is home to media companies, the BBC, Imperial College and new office buildings. Business visitors often come straight from Gatwick. Our executive saloon offers a quieter ride, and company accounts get monthly invoicing with references.
Concerts and events
The O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire on the Green and the venues around White City draw performers and fans from all over the world. If you are flying into Gatwick for a gig or an event and staying nearby, give us the hotel name. On event nights, the Green gets very busy, so the driver will drop you as close as the crowds allow.
Booking for guests
If you are booking for a guest or a visiting colleague, put their name and mobile number on the booking, and the driver will meet them in arrivals with a name board. We will send the confirmation to you.
