Blackpool's own airport has very few scheduled flights, so people from the Fylde coast who fly long-haul usually go through Manchester or one of the London airports. When the flight lands at Heathrow, Blackpool is about 225 miles away. A taxi from Heathrow Airport to Blackpool costs from £439 for a saloon, fixed at booking, for the whole car, door to door.

Up the M6 to the coast

From Heathrow, the driver takes the M25 to the M40, follows it north-west past Oxford and Banbury to Birmingham, and joins the M6 north. The M6 runs through the Midlands, past Stoke and Warrington, to Preston, where the M55 heads west to Blackpool. The driver may use the M6 Toll to bypass Birmingham when the main M6 is slow, and the toll is covered by your fare.

Without stops, the drive takes around four hours to four and a quarter hours. Birmingham and the M6 around Warrington are the usual bottlenecks. Late evening and early morning are the quickest times to travel.

Breaks are part of the plan

Four hours after a flight is a long time to sit. Your driver will stop whenever you ask, and we usually plan at least one break, often at Cherwell Valley on the M40, Hilton Park or Stafford on the M6. With children, tell us in advance and we will plan more stops.

When the car makes sense

The train is often the cheapest way for one person: from Heathrow, take the Elizabeth line or the Heathrow Express to Paddington, cross London to Euston, and catch an Avanti West Coast train to Preston, then a local train to Blackpool North. With good connections, it takes around four hours. It is good value, but it involves crossing London with luggage.

The car makes sense for families with holiday luggage, groups who can share the fare, older passengers who find stations difficult, or anyone landing late. Split across four people, the cost per person comes close to a walk-up train fare, without the changes.

Blackpool and the Fylde coast

We drop off anywhere in Blackpool: the town centre and the Promenade, North Shore, South Shore and the Pleasure Beach, Bispham, Layton and Marton. We also cover Lytham St Annes, Fleetwood, Thornton-Cleveleys, Poulton-le-Fylde and the rest of the Fylde. Blackpool Victoria Hospital is on the eastern side of town, close to the M55.

During the Illuminations season, from late summer to early November, traffic along the Promenade can be very slow in the evenings. If you are arriving then, the driver will avoid the seafront where possible.

Groups and events

Blackpool hosts conferences, dance festivals, conventions and the Illuminations, and many groups come for events. If you are travelling as a group from Heathrow, an eight-seat MPV keeps everyone together, with one fixed price for the whole vehicle. That usually works out much cheaper per head than individual train tickets.

Heathrow terminals and meet and greet

Tell us your terminal when you book: Terminals 2 and 3 are central, Terminal 5 is at the western end and Terminal 4 is on the southern side. A name board in the arrivals hall and live flight tracking come with every pickup. If your flight is delayed, the pickup moves at no extra cost.

Heathrow's drop-off charges

For your next departure, if someone drives you to Heathrow privately, they will pay £7 to enter a terminal drop-off zone, with a ten-minute limit and an £80 penalty for overstaying, as of January 2026. With a pre-booked car, the fixed fare covers it.

Late arrivals and overnight runs

Many long-haul flights land at Heathrow in the late afternoon or evening, and by the time you are through passport control, the train connections north via Euston and Preston are thinning out. A car leaves when you are ready, at the same fixed fare at any hour, and the motorways north are much quieter after 8pm. The driver will keep the car quiet if you want to sleep.

What to tell us when you book

Give us your flight number and terminal, the full Blackpool address with postcode, the number of passengers and large cases, and any stops on the way. If you are going to a hotel on the Promenade, give us the hotel name; some seafront hotels have their own set-down areas on side streets. If part of your group is getting out in Preston or Lancaster, add it as a stop.
